Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “küçük sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bentlanmasıyla oluşan kesik polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız kalıntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok adetda polipeptit zir birimi barındırır). Taban üstelik peptitlerin kesik, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino hamız, diğer amino asite kadimî, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bentlanır. Polipeptid gestaltsına merhametsizlan amino asitlerin her biri gestaltya peptid bentlarıyla bentlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir su çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Averaj bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilindik en uzun polipeptit, ortalama 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda mevcut “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine merhametsizlan amino asitlere kalıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki kalıntı, bağ yapmamış, serbest amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin diğer ucundaki serbest α-karboksil grubu olan kalıntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
